Accounting Lead (Controller-track)
- Remote
- San Francisco, California, United States
Job description
At Intento, we automate language translation for Fortune‑500 companies using AI agents. We help global brands provide a native language experience for all their customers across all markets, at all touchpoints.
We’re establishing a rigorous, in‑house accounting function to support scale. You’ll own the month‑end close, centralize AP/AR, implement US GAAP revenue recognition, and build a fast, accurate finance foundation—with a growth path to Controller and potentially CFO.
Why Join Us?
At Intento, we are redefining the future of translation and multilingual AI. Join us, and be a part of this groundbreaking journey where innovation meets excellence. Intento is a diverse team of over 80+ talented individuals working remotely from different parts of the world. At Intento, we value our employees and strive to create a work environment that promotes collaboration, flexibility, and growth. As part of our commitment to our team, we offer competitive salaries, a flexible remote culture, and a supportive and collaborative work environment.
What you’ll do
Own the close: Stand up and run a disciplined month‑end close with a D+5 target; maintain checklists, reconciliations, and documentation.
Implement revenue recognition: Establish and operate policies aligned with US GAAP (ASC 606) for subscription and services models.
Centralize AP & AR: Build vendor onboarding, approvals, payment runs, invoicing, collections cadence, and cash application with clear SLAs and controls.
Strengthen controls: Define policies (COA hygiene, accruals/prepaids, fixed assets, purchasing/approvals, documentation, segregation of duties).
Improve visibility: Deliver timely actuals, BvA reporting, COGS/gross margin by stream, and a rolling cash view; partner closely with leadership.
Scale the function: Identify automation opportunities for AI and software tools and (when volumes warrant) help scope junior support.
What success looks like
Month‑end close at D+5 with clean reconciliations and minimal post‑close adjustments.
Accurate ASC 606 revenue recognition across subscription and services.
Centralized AP/AR with reliable approvals, on‑time payments, improving DSO, and high cash‑application accuracy.
Clear monthly BvA and gross margin insights that leadership trusts.
This is a remote position; it’s open for candidates based in the EST & CST time zones of the U.S. or willing to work hours overlapping with the U.S. Eastern Time Zone (typically starting around 8 a.m. EST ± 8 hours).
The expected base salary range for this role is $100K–$120K USD per year, depending on experience. We also offer health benefits, performance-based bonus opportunities, and equity potential.
Job requirements
Must-haves:
CPA (active or inactive) — required.
6–9+ years total accounting experience with hands‑on ownership of the monthly close at a startup/scale‑up.
Demonstrated ASC 606 implementation for SaaS + services (practical, not just theoretical).
Proven experience centralizing AP and AR with documented controls and SLAs.
Strong US GAAP fundamentals; excellent Excel/Sheets; comfort with modern accounting stacks (e.g., QBO/NetSuite, payroll/EOR, expense/AP, billing/collections).
Nice-to-haves
Public accounting (Big 4 or similar) and/or Controller‑track experience.
Exposure to equity accounting and sales/use tax coordination.
Experience improving gross‑margin reporting for cloud/service environments.
